From February 28th to March 4th, the cellist Tomasz Lisiecki will give masterclasses for cello students at the CSKG in Santa Engracia 181, 28003 Madrid.

Tomasz Lisiecki

Born in Bydgoszcz, he started learning to play the cello at the age of 7. A. Rubinstein State High School of Music in Bydgoszcz, he graduated with honors from the A. Rubinstein in Bydgoszcz, graduated with honors in the class of teacher Agata Jarecka.

In 1999 he graduated with honors from the Higher Academy of Music. I. J. Paderewski in Poznan in the class of professor Stanislaw Pokorski. After graduating, he continued his studies with maestro Kazimierz Michalik in Warsaw. He also perfected his skills in courses with Roman Jablonski, Zara Nelsova and Wiktoria Yagling.

In the years 2003-2005 he studied at the Universität der Künste in Berlin in the baroque cello class of Markus Möllenbeck and Phoebe Carrai. She perfected her early music performance at the Bach-Händel Akademie masterclasses in Karlsruhe with Phoebe Carrai and with Jaap Ter Linden. In 2012, he obtained a doctorate of arts on the basis of a thesis devoted to the chamber music of F. Chopin and X. Scharwenka, and in 2019 he obtained the degree of habilitated doctor. He teaches cello at the Higher Academy of Music in Poznan.

Tomasz Lisiecki is one of the cellists who combine stage practice in the repertoire of romantic, contemporary and early music. He gives concerts with numerous ensembles and orchestras in Poland and abroad (Germany, France, Spain, Japan, China, Indonesia), as a soloist and chamber musician with the following orchestras:

Poznan Philharmonic, Poznan Opera, Zielona Góra Philharmonic, Poznan Academy of Music, Arte dei Suonatori, Capela Cracoviensis, Warsaw Chamber Opera and Capela Viridimontana.

Tomasz Lisiecki, in parallel to his artistic and concert work, also develops a wide pedagogical activity. His pupils and students have won prizes in numerous national and international cello competitions. He is invited to participate in the jury of national and international cello and chamber music competitions, including the K. Wilkomirski International Cello Competition in Poznan, Poland. Wilkomirski in Poznan, the International Cello Competition of the Pro Cello Foundation, the Young Cello Forum in Gdansk, the National Cello Competition in Krakow, and the CEA Macroregional Auditions.

Since 2014 he has been a consultant and expert for the National Children’s Fund. He conducted master classes, incl. at the European Center for them. Krzysztof Penderecki in Luslawice, during the Summer Music Academy in Zagan, the Cello Master Courses in Szamotuly, the W. Friemann in Konin and Young Musician Summer Academy in Debreczyn, Hungary. Every year he is also invited to give master classes at more than a dozen music schools throughout Poland. In 2006 and 2010 he was awarded the Poznan Mayor’s Award for his pedagogical work, and in 2018 he received the Medal of the National Education Commission for special contributions to education and upbringing. For the past fifteen years, together with pianist Pawel Mazur, he has been organizing the Master Cello Courses and the International Chamber Music Festival.
