Aureliano Cattaneo was born in Italy in 1974. He studied piano and composition at Piacenza and Milan and has attended courses with Gérard Grisey and Mauricio Sotelo.
A recipient of several awards, in 2003 he won the “Comité de Lecture de l’IRCAM/Ensemble Intercontemporain”. In 2005 he was elected as “Stipendiat” by the “Akademie der Künste” in Berlin and has been resident composer of the Ensemble 2e2m of Paris in 2006/07.
He has been awarded the prestigious 2013 Förderpreis of the Salzburg Musikpreis.
His music is regularly played at important festivals: Donaueschinger Musik Tage, Tage für neue Kammermusik Wittener, Munich Biennale Salzburg Biennale, Strasbourg Music Festival, Wien Modern, Biennale di Venezia, Milano Musica, MärzMusik Berlin, München BR Musica Viva, Warsaw Autumn, by ensembles and orchestras such as the SWR Sinfonie Orchester, Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble musikFabrik, Quatuor Diotima, Contrechamps Ensemble, Trio Accanto, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Schola Heidelberg, Mdi Ensemble Espai Sonor, conducted by Emilio Pomarico, Francois-Xavier Roth, Sylvain Cambreling, Susanna mallki, Stefan Asbury, Johannes Kalitzke, Michael Wendeberg, Enno Poppe, Lucas Vis, Beat Furrer, Lothar Zagrosek, Voro Garcia.
He has collaborated with the poet Edoardo Sanguineti, with whom he wrote the chamber opera “la philosophie dans le labyrinthe” which premiered in 2006 at the “10. Münchener Biennale”. In 2013 the Klangforum Wien has premiered at the Vienna Konzerthaus “parole di settembre”, a vocal cycle in 3 parts with texts by Sanguineti based on paintings by Andrea Mantegna.
Since 2010 he teaches at ESMUC, in Barcelona. His works are published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, Milano.
