Alexander Osokin

Alexander Osokin was born in Moscow in a family of musicians (his father a composer, his mother a cellist). He studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with M. Rostropovich, and got his PhD grade specializing in String Quartet at the the Gnessin Conservatory with V. Berlinsky.

He participated as first cello in the orquestral competition ‘H. Von Karajan’, in Berlin, playing as co-principal in the International Orchestra under the direction of Karajan. He is a member of the ‘Moscow String Quartet’, and winner of several first prizes in international competitions. With the string quartet, he worked with D. Shostakovich. He was part of the “Spivakov Quartet’ and is one of the founders of the orchestra ‘Moscow Virtuosi’, conducted by V. Spivakov. With different groups he has recorded over 30 CDs for labels such as ‘BMG’, ‘Le Chant du Monde’, ‘Melodia’, ‘Angel’, ‘Tañides’ ‘RBM’, ‘Brilliant classics’. With the Moscow Quartet he recorded A. Borodin’s collected works; this recording was rated ‘CHOC’ at ‘Le Monde de la Musique’. He played in more than 35 countries worldwide.

In the field of education he has extensive experience, having started this activity in Moscow. He was a member of the jury at the ‘Concurso Nacional de Violonchelistas’ in Zaragoza, artistic director of the ‘Concurso de Violonchelo de Arquillos’ (Jaén), postgrade cello teacher at the ‘Universidad de Oviedo’, member of the jury at the ‘Concurso Internacional de Violonchelo’ in Llanes.

Currently he is a teacher of cello and chamber music at the Conservatório de Avilés and a cello teacher at the ‘Máster de Interpretación Solista’ (MIS) of the Centro Superior KATARINA GURSKA, in Madrid.
