María Zapata

The Asturian soprano Maria Zapata has completed her studies at the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid. She has completed her training at the Centre de Perfeccionament “Plácido Domingo” of the Palau de les Arts (Valencia) and the Accademia Pucciniana of Torre del Lago (Italy). She has taken part in Masterclasses with Antón Garcia-Abril, Miquel Ortega, Dalton Baldwin, Cynthia Sanner, Wolfang Rieger, Charles Spencer, Isabel Penagos, Ana Luisa Chova, Akiko Hosaki, Davide Livermore….

She won the Denise Duval Prize at the Positively Poulenc Competition in New York. In subsequent years, she has also won first prize at the Villa de Colmenar Viejo International Singing Competition, second prize at the Logroño International Singing Competition, second prize, audience prize and role at the Luis Mariano International Singing Competition… She has also been awarded twice with the Ángel Vegas scholarship granted by “Amigos de la Ópera de Madrid” to complete her training at the Academie Internationale de Nize.
In 2019 she was a finalist in the Tenor Viñas International Competition, obtaining a Ferrer Salat prize.

In August 2015 she has been Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica, Puccini) at the Puccinian Festival of Torre del Lago (Italy). She has sung roles in Nabucco (Anna), Il Trovatore (Ines), Il signor Bruschino (Marianna), Noye’s Flude (Gossip Girl), La Revoltosa (Soledad) and Agua Azucarillos y Aguardiente (Manuela), in places such as Los Teatros del Canal, Teatro Nuevo Apolo, Teatro Campoamor…

Within her intense concert activity, the recital offered at Princeton University (New Jersey) accompanied on piano by Dalton Baldwin, a tour within the Puccinian Festival in Italy, and two tours in China and Korea during 2016 stand out.

For Radio Clasica (RNE) she has recorded La Dame de Monte-Carlo (Poulenc) with pianist Jorge Robaina as well as the collaboration with tenor Joaquin Pixan in the recording of “Maria Lejarraga. Música emocional, música recobrada” (Andante, 2012).
