Ander Perrino

Ander Perrino was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz in 1986. His first contact with music was when he was 7 years old, taking piano lessons at school. He began his double bass studies at the age of 12 with the teacher Aleksander Mikolajczyk, who was key in his musical education.

Ander Perrino moved to Berlin in 2007 to study double bass at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler with professors Esko Laine and Janne Saksala. After two years of university studies he began his professional career with the best orchestras in the city. He collaborated with the Berlin Philharmonic for 4 years and in August 2013 he became a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. In the same year he made his debut with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado and won two international prizes at the Serguei Koussevitzky double bass competition in St. Petersburg, Russia. At the beginning of 2014 he recorded his first album with the tango trio Cayao on the Oehms Classics label to great critical acclaim in Germany. This was followed by numerous concerts in Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden Festival, Audi Sommerkonzerte, Stars von Morgen and Ondas de Jazz in Vitoria. At the end of 2014 he won the position of Principal Double Bass in the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

Ander Perrino is regularly invited as Principal Double Bassist to the best orchestras in the world, among them the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischer Rundfunk, London Symphony Orchestra, Deutscher Oper Berlin, NDR Hamburg, Royal Concertgebow Orchestra Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin.

In 2010 he made his debut as soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi performing Nino Rota’s Divertimento Concertante for double bass and orchestra conducted by Andrés Orozco Estrada. He made his solo debut at the double bass convention in Prague in 2016, performing a recital with pianist Jarkko Riihimäki and giving masterclasses at the festival.

Ander Perrino has given masterclasses at the Guildhall School of Music in London, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Gustav Mahler Academy, Conservatorio Superior de Música «Manuel Castillo» in Seville, Conservatorio Superior de Música «Rafael Orozco» in Córdoba, Joven Orquesta de Colombia and Eusko Gazte Orkestra (EGO).

Parallel to his career as an orchestral musician he carries out many alternative projects. In 2018 he created the Linien Ensemble together with the Spanish oboist María Lindo. The debut was at the Admiralspalast in Berlin with the work «El niño y la bestia» (The boy and the beast), which fuses music and literature with the writer Elvira Lindo. In 2019 he founded the quartet cuatro versos together with Thomas Hecker, Maria Lindo and Joanna Gancarz making their debut in Zwickau in February 2020 and touring Andalusia in March 2020 fusing music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Astor Piazzolla.In May 2022 Ander Perrino records his first solo album with IBS Classical with original repertoire for double bass and piano with pianist Jarkko Riihimäki. It will be presented in 2023.

On May 24th 2023 Ander Perrino will premiere his concerto for double bass and winds commissioned by the Banda Municipal de Música de Vitoria-Gasteiz conducted by Luis Orduña.

On 28 May 2023 Ander Perrino will perform a recital in the Auditorio «Manuel de Falla» in Granada, making his solo debut with pianist Jarkko Riihimäki in the series Piano con sabor. This concert will be the premiere of the suite of popular songs by Lorca arranged for double bass and piano by Ander Perrino.
