Practice Methodology, a New Attentional Training for Musicians with László Stachó.
The Practice Methodology embodies a new, all-inclusive attention training for music performers. It aims to empower the vital skills of musical attention to achieve maximum expressiveness and precision with efficiency, safety and ease. The powerful mental “toolkit” that the training provides can be used with considerable success by instrumentalists, singers, chamber groups, choirs and orchestras alike, from the most basic to the most advanced levels of music education. It allows the musician to be totally immersed in the moment while performing, to be emotionally engaged with the music with full concentration, to keep time with ease and comfort, and to take expressive risks and deal with mistakes during performance. Among the most important additional benefits of coaching are the following: it allows for a considerable reduction in practice time and an appreciable decrease in stage fright, and opens the way to the performer’s feeling of authenticity, freedom and “ownership” of the music.
Dr. László Stachó is a musicologist, psychologist and pianist working at the Liszt Academy of Music (Budapest) and as a regular guest professor at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory (Rome). His academic activity focuses on the teaching of chamber music, the history of 20th century performance practice, the psychology of music performance and practice methodology. As a pianist and chamber musician, he has performed in several European countries and in the United States, and conducts Practice Methodology workshops (his training of attention) and chamber music coaching sessions in international masterclasses in a dozen countries, from Great Britain to Israel to the United States. He also conducts coaching sessions for orchestras, working with his mindfulness training for musicians.
