Juanita Holguín Restrepo

Juanita Holguín Restrepo

Noted for her interpretative sensitivity and musical internalisation of the works, Juanita carefully selects her repertoire to demonstrate the versatility and capabilities of the saxophone as an instrument that transcends its time.

As a soloist and making her debut at the Museo Nacional de Bogotá, she has been contacted several times by composers to premiere their works thanks to her dedication to the importance of interpretation and the message she wants to convey. Also interested in chamber music, she has been a member of the Andes Saxophone Quartet since 2014, which took part as special guests in the first university meeting in the country, and also participated in the concert series of the Jorge Tadeo Lozano Auditorium, and in the Colón Acústico concert series at the Teatro Colón. Throughout her career, she has also been part of Big Bands and Jazz and Salsa groups.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Juanita had her first approach to music at the age of 8, where she discovered her passion for the saxophone and began her musical journey as a self-taught musician. At the age of 18, she completed her higher studies at the Universidad de los Andes under the tutelage of Maestro Luis Eduardo Aguilar. With the desire to enrich her musicality and knowledge of the saxophone, she decided to continue her studies outside her native country, and to study for a Master’s Degree in Solo Performance at the CSKG in Madrid, under the tutelage of Pedro Pablo Cámara. She currently combines her musical facet with artistic research, studying for a doctorate at the UVa and the IKG.
