Michael Noone
Michael Noone: musicologist and choral conductor, a graduate of the University of Sydney, received his doctorate in music from King’s College, Cambridge before being appointed Head of Musicology at the School of Music, Australian National University. He subsequently held positions at Cornell and the University of Hong Kong. In 2001 he founded the Ensemble Plus Ultra for the specific purpose of performing the Spanish music that is the subject of his research.
He is a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Historical Sciences of Toledo.
Professor Noone’s research focuses on Early Modern sacred music, with particular emphasis on Spain and Latin America; he is passionate about the interrelationship between musical scholarship and performance, and is deeply concerned with the complex issues that arise when the music of the past is performed in the present.
He is currently Head of the Department of Music at Boston University (USA).
