Nerea Sorozábal Moreno
Nerea Sorozábal Moreno was born in Madrid in 1994. Born into a family of musicians, she began to play the cello as a child and in 2007 she began her formal musical training at the Centro Integrado de Música “Padre Antonio Soler” in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, receiving classes from Dimitri Furdnadjev, Arantza López Barinagarrementería and María de Macedo. At the same time he attended courses and masterclasses with Asier Polo, Lluis Claret, Christophe Coin and Gary Hoffmann. After deciding to continue her higher education in Germany, in 2016 Nerea obtained a Bachelor’s degree with excellent qualifications at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig, where she studied with the renowned Prof. Peter Bruns. To complete her education Nerea went to Switzerland, where between 2016 and 2028 she studied for a Master’s degree in Music Performance at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Zürich in the class of Prof. Roel Dieltiens.
During her years of study, Nerea has been awarded scholarships by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, LMN Leipzig e.V. and the AIF foundation in collaboration with the DAAD, the Lyra Stiftung and Bruno Schuler. Her enthusiasm for working in the fields of orchestral and chamber music has led her to do an internship with the MDR Radio Orchestra, to participate in the Prades Festival “Pablo Casals”, to be selected as an academician in the orchestra of the Schleswig Holstein International Festival and to be invited to the HARMOS Chamber Music Festival in Porto with the “quintet fin de siècle”.
Throughout the 2018/2019 season Nerea was part of the staff of the Györ Philharmonic Orchestra in Hungary and currently combines teaching with performing. Since 2021 she has been the cello soloist in Délica Chamber Orchester, a group with which she regularly performs in important venues such as the Auditorio Nacional de Música, Palau de la Música Catalana, Teatro Real and Auditorio de Zaragoza. It is also worth mentioning her work with the violinist Bálint Váray, with whom she forms the duo váray-sorozábal, giving concerts in Mendelssohnhaus Leipzig, Palacio Longoria in Madrid, the Paraninfo of the University of Alcalá de Henares or the Victoria Eugenia Theatre in San Sebastián.
Thanks to the generosity of Rainer Bendel, Nerea plays a French cello made in 1760 by Jean Nicolas Lambert.
