Sara Escuer Salcedo

Sara Escuer Salcedo is Professor of Music at the International University of La Rioja and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Salamanca. Between 2019 and 2023 she was Professor in the Department of Musicology at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla y León, in Salamanca, and between 2020 and 2022 she was a member of its management team as Deputy Head of Studies. She is a member of the Recognised Research Group “Intangible Heritage Music and Gender International Network” (IHMAGINE), at the University of Salamanca, and Secretary of the Editorial Board of the journal Popular Music Research Today, published by the same university. She is accredited as Profesor Contratada Doctora and Profesor de Universidad Privada by ANECA.

She obtained a higher qualification in Choir Conducting at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón, under the guidance of Dr. Nuria Fernández Herranz, finishing with the highest marks. Subsequently, she studied a Master’s Degree in Spanish and Latin American Music at the Complutense University of Madrid. In 2017 she obtained the degree of Doctor in Musicology -Sobresaliente ‘cum laude’- at the Complutense University of Madrid, under the direction of Dr. Antonio Ezquerro Esteban (I.M.F. – C.S.I.C), with the thesis entitled “El villancico en la catedral de Jaca durante el reinado de Felipe V (1700-1746): recepción y evolución del nuevo estilo).

As a choir conductor, she has been the conductor of more than 15 amateur choirs and co-director for six years of the choir of Atades Huesca, an organisation dedicated to the care of people with intellectual disabilities. In 2011 she founded the musical and social project ‘Sinestesia’, which she directed until its dissolution in 2019. Through this project, five children’s choirs, a youth choir and various activities for the elderly were created in different towns in Aragon.

She has been a teacher in several editions of the Choir Conducting Course at the Carlos III University of Madrid. She has been a guest speaker at the Extraordinary Summer Courses of the University of Zaragoza, the University of Experience of the University of Zaragoza, the University of Experience of the University of Salamanca, and UniverUsal ‘la universidad inclusiva’ of the University of Salamanca. She has carried out the cataloguing of music collections of the music archive of the cathedral of Jaca (Huesca) and the music archive of the cathedral of Barbastro (Huesca), in collaboration with RISM-España and RISM-ZentralRedaktion (Frankfurt, Germany).

She is a member of the Specific Commission for the Evaluation of Arts and Humanities of L’Agència per a la Qualitat del Sistema Universitari de Catalunya (AQU Catalunya). Since 2021 she has been the editorial secretary of Popular Music Research Today: Revista de Música y Educación of the University of Salamanca. She has reviewed articles (peer-reviewed and double-blind) for the journals Anuario Musical (C.S.I.C.), Cuadernos de Investigación Musical (Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha) and Popular Music Research Today: Revista de Música y Educación (Universidad de Salamanca). She is the author of two books, several book chapters and articles in research journals, as well as programme notes for choral music concerts.
