Pablo Sanz, PhD.

Artist, composer and researcher. His work includes site-specific and public art projects, immersive installations, multi-channel concerts in the dark, exhibition montages, radio works, record publications and audio pieces for headphones. His practice is an investigation into listening, space-time and vitality beyond the human. Through a continuum of approaches, strategies and modes of listening, her works explore the limits of habitual perception and attention, fostering a sensory ecological sensibility. Listening reveals itself as a political act, aimed at resisting dominant tendencies in contemporary societies, cultivating alternative ways of being and thinking.

He has presented his work internationally in different contexts such as Museo Reina Sofía, Auditorio Nacional, La Casa Encendida, Fundación March, Matadero (Madrid), Phonos, Hangar (Barcelona), STEIM (Amsterdam), PS2 Gallery (Belfast), Museum of Contemporary Art Wroclaw, Australasian Computer Music Conference (Brisbane), Q-O2 (Brussels), Künstlerhaus Dortmund, Radiophrenia CCA (Glasgow), Audiorama (Gothenburg), LUCIA Festival (Florence), ZKM (Karlsruhe), Kino Šiška (Ljubljana), Café Oto (London), Brooklyn Acoustic Ecology Festival (NYC), Sonoscopia (Porto), Galerie Školská 28 (Prague), FILE Festival (São Paulo), VELAK (Vienna), Sound Scene Festival (Washington DC), among others.

He has participated in numerous artistic residencies and received various support, grants and awards, including the programmes of the Centro de Residencias Artísticas de Matadero Madrid, the Académie de France at the Casa de Velázquez, INLAND-Campo Adentro, Fundación Santander, Acción Cultural Española, ARE Holland, Europe: A Sound Panorama Award (Deutschlandradio Kultur, Goethe Institute), Instituto Mamirauá (Amazonas), Laboratorio de Acústica e Artes Sonoras (LASom) at UNICAMP (São Paulo), Visby International Centre for Composers (VICC) in Gotland, EMS Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm, Swedish Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden), Sound and Music (UK) and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, among others.

In 2020 he received a Phonurgia Nova Award for the work “strange strangers”, commissioned by R(A)DIO(CUSTICA) on Czech Radio (CRo 3 Vltava). He has also produced commissions for the Radio del Museo Reina Sofía (RRS), Radio Clásica de Radio Nacional de España (RNE), Atelier De Création Sonore Radiophonique (ACSR) in Belgium or the Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy in the United States, and published works in collaboration with several labels and platforms.

He holds a PhD in Experimental Electroacoustic Composition and Sonic Arts from the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), Queen’s University Belfast and a BA in ArtScience and Sonology from the University of the Arts in The Hague.

He is a co-founding member, in 2004, of the Mediateletipos.net platform and was curator of the eleventh edition of the international creative meeting Sensxperiment. Inmersión Sensorial (2009-2011), in Córdoba. He has given talks, courses and workshops at universities and national and international creative centres.
