Luis Cabrera
Born in Madrid 1985, after studying at the Joaquín Turina professional conservatory with Rafael Frías and later with Karen Martirossian, he moved in 2003 to London, to study with Rinat Ibagimov at the Guindhall School of Music & Drama, both higher and postgraduate studies. Later he received a final master’s degree at the Hochschule Hans Eisler with Professor Janne Saksala.
He has recently been invited to play as principal double bass with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Opera (ENO) BBC Orchestras, Orchestre National de France in Paris, Scotish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Northem Sinfonia, London Mozart Players, London Sinfonieta and Amsterdam Sinfonieta, where he has worked with conductors and soloists of the highest level.
Luis has participated in various festivals and participated in recordings for prestigious labels such as EMI Classics, BBC or Pentatone, as well as collaborating with the “New generation Artist” program of the BBC in the United Kingdom, playing with artists of international prestige. Recently he has released his first album for the TRPTK label, “Canto Interno”
Since 2006 he has been principal double bass of the “Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra” in Amsterdam, and his activity as a teacher and concert performer has led him to teach courses and play in Hong Kong, Greece, Mexico, Holland, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Spain. And played in prestigious halls such as Het concergebouw, Wigmore hall, De Doelen, Palacio de Cibeles or LSO St Luke’s soloist or in chamber groups.
Luis joined the faculty of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2012 and has been a guest teacher and coach in several schools and youth orchestras such as CSKG in Madrid where he is a regular guest teacher, as well as at CSMA in Zaragoza, Forum Musikae and JONDE. He is also a professor at the Rotterdam Conservatory (CODARTS) since 2018.
Luis plays with an instrument made by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi c.1770 on loan from the Dutch National Instrument Foundation (NMF).
