Milagros Poblador

Milagros Poblador was born in Madrid. She studied at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música, obtaining the Title of Senior Professor of Singing with “Honors” and the Title of Piano Professor. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts from Rey Juan Carlos University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from Complutense University.

Her vocal instructors include Ana Fernaud and Francisco Lázaro. She was a scholarship holder at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Alfredo Kraus’s singing chair (1994/95) and served as a singing professor there from 2015 to 2017. Currently, she teaches at the Katarina Gurska Higher School of Music in Madrid while pursuing her solo career and holding a position by competitive examination in the Chorus of the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.

She was awarded in the “Francisco Viñas” Competition ’94 for Best Light Soprano and Best Spanish Interpreter and received the “Grup de Liceistes 4art. i 5è. Pis del Gran Teatre del Liceu” Prize. She won the First Prize in the “Francisco Alonso” Competition ’94 and the “Eugenio Marco” Competition ’94. She was also awarded Best Performer of Spanish Opera in the “Julián Gallarre” Competition ’94 and was a finalist in the “Reine Elisabeth” Competition in Belgium ’96. Her success in the 1996-1997 season at the Gran Teatre del Liceu led to her nomination as “Revelation Singer” by the Opera Critics.

She was a member of the ensemble at the Linz Opera House from 1998 to 2000 and at the Vienna State Opera from 2000 to 2006. Since then, she has been invited to perform at major European theaters, including the German Opera in Berlin, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Zurich Opera House, the Teatro Real and Teatro de La Zarzuela in Madrid, the Frankfurt Opera, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Maestranza Theater in Seville, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the National Auditorium in Madrid, the Irish Opera, the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, and also at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, the Musashino Civic Cultural Hall in Tokyo, the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, among others.

Milagros Poblador gained recognition for her performances in demanding roles such as Queen of the Night in “The Magic Flute,” Olympia in “The Tales of Hoffmann,” Zerbinetta in “Ariadne auf Naxos,” and Blonde in “The Abduction from the Seraglio,” which opened doors to major European theaters. She is particularly noted for her interpretation of Queen of the Night, having performed the role in 54 productions at the Vienna State Opera and over 190 times internationally.

In the realm of lyric-light roles, Milagros Poblador has had significant appearances as Konstanze in “The Abduction from the Seraglio,” Gilda in “Rigoletto,” Amina in “La Sonnambula,” Norina in “Don Pasquale,” Adina in “L’Elisir d’Amore,” Oscar in “Un ballo in maschera,” Sophie in “Werther,” Musetta in “La bohème,” Marina, and Doña Francisquita. In more modern repertoire, she has performed roles such as Alma in Schönberg’s “Jacob’s ladder,” Ida in Henze’s “Der junge Lord,” Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress,” and others.

She has collaborated with renowned conductors and stage directors such as L. Hager, G. Carella, Rozdestvensky, F. Haider, Josep Pons, Odón Alonso, P. Steinberg, R. Weikert, Ros-Marbá, Guadagno, S. Ozawa, F. Luisi, M. Gómez-Martínez, L. Kemp, Mario Gas, M. A. Marelli, P. Busse, Emilio Sagi, among others.

Her recorded performances include “The Magic Flute” with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Roger Norrington, “The Tales of Hoffmann” with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alain Guingal, “Un ballo in maschera” with the Orchestra of the Teatro Principal de Palma de Mallorca conducted by Renato Palumbo, “Marina,” “La traviata,” and “Rigoletto” with the Orchestra of the Teatro Calderón de Madrid conducted by J. A. Irastorza and Tulio Gagliardo, and “Los gavilanes” with the RTVE Orchestra conducted by Enrique García Asensio.
